Aunt Good Witch (18 x 24”)

I’ve taken to likening these old stumps to members of families. ‘Father Time’ and ‘Mother Nurture’ were the first two stumps I painted from photos taken on our walks through the local forests on Vancouver’s North Shore.

When painting this piece and thinking about family, my 3 aunts on my dad’s side came into my thoughts. They, all three, are very funny, kind, and I believe quite intuitive women. 

My sister & I thought of them as 

good witches. Shhh! I don’t think they know this! Lol! But they’re GOOD witches;)

When they got cackling together over the pot at the corn roast, it may as well have been a cauldron! ;)

Old stumps in the woods often have items placed in their cauldron like tops. I’ve spotted rocks, sticks, a toy dinosaur, mini recycle bin, statue, tea cup and saucer, geocaching box, a fairy sene and a salt and pepper shaker set!
